JY Chen is an emerging lighting designer currently based in the lower mainland of BC, Canada.
Graduated from Taipei National University of the Arts, where JY was nourished by various forms of art works, and also assisted lighting designers at the school production. He discovered that theatre is highly inclusive, and lighting design is an intimate way for him to express his thoughts, further more, connect to others stories.
Deeply fascinated by the fluidity and interplay between light and shadow, and its relationship with the relativity of time. He finds a similarity between the process of designing lights and writing Chinese Calligraphy, the breath, the heart beat and how they embody life and stories.
After graduated from TNUA, JY worked as a lighting designer, programmer, electrician and technician in theatre. He aims to contribute to the Canadian theatre community through collaborative and express lighting design.
